"Preserving the past to shape the future"

The leadership, perseverance and teamwork of the original crew of Lion New Zealand, Steinlager 2 and the America's Cup Yachts provide an incredible legacy rich with learning potential. Sailing on these yachts provides a perfect atmosphere for team building exercises and personal development. The mere act of sailing a vessel of this size requires effective teamwork and promotes personal effort and interdependence.

Sadly many young people lack the opportunity of experiencing New Zealand's incredible maritime environment. The Trust partners with key charitable organisations and directly with schools to provide once in a lifetime experiences. Working through partnership enables groups to access sailing as a key platform to enhance their own programme objectives.

Each participant is involved in the following activities:

- Hoisting, setting and dowsing of the yacht's sails

- Helming the yacht

- Food preparation and cooking

- Decision making around navigation
