5 day Sail and Kayak Adventure supported by InsideOUT Kōaro and Rainbow Youth

  • NZ Sailing Trust Auckland New Zealand Antipodes (map)

This program welcomes all young members of the New Zealand rainbow community to embark on a journey of self-discovery and adventure in a supportive environment. Our goal is to promote awareness of the natural environment and the significance of preserving it, while exploring new horizons in the Hauraki Gulf.

This programme is now full. Please click here to place your name on the waiting list. You will be contacted if a place becomes available.

If you're interested in joining us, there are a few things you'll need. You should feel comfortable making plans and travelling with a group, have a can-do attitude, and be ready to try new things. You'll need to be at least 14 years old.

To take part in this trip, you will need to pay $300 per person as your contribution, even though it is partially funded. Please note that the trip is available only through application. The fee covers all the necessary equipment for kayaking, sailing, and camping, along with the services of professional guides and instructors. You will be accommodated on a yacht and provided with tents during the kayaking portion. All food expenses are covered.

For the first two days of our program we will be sailing on an incredibly historic yacht - Lion New Zealand or Steinlager 2. These boats were sailed around the world by Sir Peter Blake in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, and you'll have the chance to learn how to sail them too! You'll help out with meal prep and sleep on board.

We'll be breaking into watch rotations so that everyone can learn about different aspects of sailing, like reading the weather, planning our destination, and working together to get the boat where we need to go. Plus, we'll have some awesome activities planned, like beach cleanups, raft building, and communication games that will help you develop skills and grow personally.

After two nights on the boats, we'll switch gears and head out for some kayaking and camping with Auckland Sea Kayaks. It's going to be an amazing experience! You'll learn how to kayak, work with your peers, and follow the guidance of our experienced and qualified instructor. We'll also be practising Leave No Trace principles and talking about how they apply to our environment and daily life.

We can't wait to get started, and we'd be so excited to have you join us on this adventure!
