Our Unique Youth Development Program

Designed specifically for young women aged 14-18, this immersive 5-day experience centers on personal achievement, empowerment, and leadership. Through dynamic activities like sailing and kayaking, you’ll embark on a journey of self-discovery and reflection, fostering a deep respect for yourself and for Kaitiakitanga, the guardianship and protection of our natural environment.

Program Highlights

Sail on Legendary Maxi Yachts

Spend two nights sailing on famous maxi yachts, either Lion New Zealand or Steinlager 2. On board, you'll get to:

  • Learn how to sail these amazing boats

  • Help prepare meals with your crew

  • Sleep under the stars on the yacht

  • Join a watch rotation to experience different sailing roles

  • Practice reading the weather and planning destinations

  • Work together to navigate the yacht to your planned destination

Plus, you'll participate in fun activities like beach clean-ups, raft building, and problem-solving games to boost your skills and confidence.

Kayak and Camp with Auckland Sea Kayaks

Spend another two nights on the water with Auckland Sea Kayaks, where you'll:

  • Learn how to kayak in a fun and safe environment

  • Camp overnight with your new friends

  • Lead and follow your peers with the help of an experienced female instructor

  • Use map reading and navigation skills

  • Follow Leave No Trace principles, learning how to protect the environment

This adventure is all about pushing your limits, learning new skills, and having a blast with people your age. By the end, you'll be more confident, skilled, and ready to take on any challenge.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH (OPTIONAL)

The programme is structured in a way that allows the female participants who have been awarded space on this trip to participate and complete components of the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award (DOE) if relevant to them  (this is optional). The programme components meet the requirements for both the Practice and Qualifying part of the Adventurous Journey at Bronze, Silver or Gold. The 5 day programme meets the requirement for the Gold Residential Project. Please discuss with your DOE Leader to ensure your goals will be met by participating in this journey. For those not completing the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award, they will receive the same quality of programme and experiences.

COST $1,575.00 INCL GST PER PERSON + booking fee

Cost includes use of kayak and sailing vessel, experienced instructors/assessors, experienced yacht skipper and crew, food, camping equipment, accommodation camping and on board yacht.
