A huge thank you to our sponsors and benefactors: We are very excited to receive news that Steinlager 2 is getting a new engine from Volvo and a 5 yearly rig check. The sail is 163 sq metres of cloth made from Technora Fibres and printed taffeta for a retro Kevlar colour. It's even lighter than the original sails at around 180kg! We're so grateful to Trillian Trust and Auckland Maritime Foundation for their support and to Doyle Sails Auckland for their patience and assistance.
We want to say a big thank you to all our amazing supporters for their incredible generosity. We're thrilled to have received new wet weather gear for boats from Musto Autralasia and Trillian Trust.
Kiwiyachting and Trillian Trust also provided brand-new life jackets for Steinlager 2.
Both Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand have had new 3D videos made! to allow our students, teachers and parents to see the yachts before a trip. See Thru Digital, “Bringing the physical world into the metaverse with Digital Twins” is new company providing specialist reality capture services and creating user-led experiences in the metaverse using 3D imaging technology from Manaaki Marine. The videos are being embellished so that they can be used for new crew training too - awesome! And thank you to the Trillian Trust for helping us with this exciting development.
Chains, Ropes and Anchors and Trillian Trust provided new anchor chains for both boats. Fineline and Trillian Trust helped by providing a new main halyard on Lion NZ. Orams and Trillian Trust even pitched in to clean Steinlager 2's hull and Engel Refrigeration Ltd are very cool (ha!) for providing two new refrigerators for Steinlager 2!
